A bug hotel is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and learn about nature with the little ones.
Rummage around to see what you can find lying around in the outdoors from bricks and plant pots, to pieces of wood and slate to build the shell of your house. You can be as creative as you like but don’t forget to make sure the roof is waterproof to keep those little bugs dry.
Hollowed stems and twigs, sticks, stones, moss and bark can be used to fill the inside of your house to encourage bugs to explore and to give them a safe place to stay.
Don’t forget to make sure your hotel is positioned somewhere flat and secure, then sit back and enjoy watching your guests arrive. Just like plants, some bugs will like damp and dark conditions whereas others will like dry sunny conditions and this means you’re likely to see different bugs depending on where you locate your hotel.
